Taban - FAQ

How do I open the tab switcher?

Middle-click (scroll wheel click) anywhere on a page, or press Ctrl+Space. The switcher pops up right where your cursor is.

Middle-click isn't working

Some pages override middle-click behavior. Try pressing Ctrl+Space instead. Also make sure the extension is enabled and you're not on a Chrome internal page (chrome://).

Does middle-click still open links in new tabs?

Yes. Middle-clicking a link works exactly as before — it opens the link in a new tab. Taban only activates when you middle-click on empty space (not a link).

Can I search my tabs?

Yes. Just start typing while the switcher is open. It filters tabs by title and URL in real time.

Can I close tabs from the switcher?

Yes. Each tab in the list has a ✕ button to close it directly without switching to it first.

Does it work on Firefox?

Not yet. Taban is currently Chrome-only (Manifest V3). Firefox support may come in a future update.

Does Taban collect any data?

No. Taban makes zero network requests and stores nothing persistently. Tab metadata is held in memory only while the switcher is open. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

Why does it need "all sites" permission?

The content script needs to run on every page so it can detect your middle-click or Ctrl+Space. Without this permission, Taban couldn't open the switcher. It does not read or modify page content.

Does Taban slow down my browser?

No. Taban has no background activity. The content script only listens for the middle-click and keyboard shortcut — it does nothing until you trigger it.

Can I change the keyboard shortcut?

Not yet. The shortcut is currently Ctrl+Space. Customizable shortcuts may be added in a future update.
